Introduction to Digital SLR Photography

This course is specifically designed for absolute beginners interested in exploring the various features of their respective digital single lens reflex (dSLR) camera.

  • Successfully using aperture priority vs. shutter priority
  • Using ISO settings effectily
  • Employing exposure lock and choosing the correct light metre mode in practice
  • Discovering natural and available lighting techniques
  • Exploring the benefits of manual focus vs. zone focus vs. auto focus
  • Learning the pros and cons of zoom lenses vs. prime lenses

      

 

Colour vs. Black and White Photography

This course is specifically tailored to intermediate dSLR photographers who are keen to immerse themselves into the spectacular world of black and white photography.

  • Learning to see and visualise in black and white
  • The Zone System
  • Common scenarios for choosing black and white over colour
  • Shooting RAW and B&W post-processing techniques (digital filters)

      

 

Successful Picture Composition

This course is purposely designed for all intermediate photographers who are interested in advancing their compositional and abstract photography skills. Topics covered include:

  • Simplicity
  • The Rule of Thirds
  • Lines
  • Balance
  • Framing
  • Avoiding Mergers

      

 

Intensive Weekend Photography Excursions

Starting in the spring of 2011 we will also offer intensive weekend photography excursions for groups consisting of up to 8 individuals.

Specifically selected locations in England, Italy, France and Switzerland, complete with accommodation and teaching facilities have been chosen for their photographic value and ease of access by means of public and private transport.

            

 

Course Costs

  • Individual course (3 hours): CHF 225
  • Group course (4 hours): CHF 75 per person (max. group size is 4)
  • Weekend Excursions: Prices vary according to location.

Upon registering for your course you will receive all relevant payment information. Only fully paid up participants will be able to attend.

Course participants are required to be equipped ready to take photographs. This means you need to have sensible footwear, fully charged batteries, sufficient storage space on your own camera compliant memory cards, dSLR camera and lens.

Unless otherwise stated, all courses take place in Zurich on the second and last weekend of every month.
